We are looking for a mid-level DBA for our Data Platform team. The main focus of this role is MS SQL Server (Amazon RDS) and Amazon Redshift Data Warehouse clusters, but due to the nature and size of our company, involvement and exposure to other data and database technologies is guaranteed for the right candidate. You will join us in supporting our large scale, distributed platform spanning across multiple geographic locations. Our platform resides fully in AWS, operates in dozens of markets globally and focuses on ease of use for our customers along with integrity amp; security for the data they trust us with.
What are the role responsibilities?
- Tuning, optimization and administration of our databases within our organization using MSSQL, Redshift, Oracle, RDS, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, and other data related technologies.
- Proactively monitor performance of database systems resources and query throughput.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and optimize poorly performing or broken SQL stored procedures.
- Work with developers to optimize SQL code as necessary
- Being responsible for database releases across all environments, ensuring standards are followed.
- Monitor and work the JIRA ticket queue for any database related requests and tasks.
- Maintain database documentation as required.
- Monitor and enhance our dashboards with database KPI metrics, on Grafana, CloudWatch, and Splunk.
Requirements
What are the requirements?
- BS in Computer Science or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years’ professional experience in a similar role using Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or later is mandatory, and experience with other relational databases is a plus.
- Experience with best practice implementation, and on-going management of Highly Available Database environments within 24/7 business critical systems.
- Strong T-SQL scripting skills and ability to carry out SQL code reviews to assure accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Solid understanding of backup, index maintenance and integrity check configuration
Desired skills
- Experience troubleshooting database issues using wait statistics, extended events, and system views is highly desirable.
- Experience with AWS or other public cloud providers is highly desirable.
- PowerShell and/or Python scripting knowledge, highly desirable.
- Experience with SQL Change Data Capture (CDC) is highly desirable.
- Experience other data platforms like Oracle, and Redshift
- Experience with ELT tools like Snaplogic
- Experience developing in the AWS ecosystem (AWS CloudWatch, DynamoDB, Lambda functions)
- Experience with Grafana, or Splunk
- Experience with Jenkins automation tool
- Familiarity with tools like JIRA, Gitlab, and Confluence.
